the table of yarn advent-ure goodness

Down below is a table which has 7 different yarn sizes across the top, and then down below there’s the details for one square, and then for 3 different blanket sizes.

1. First choose:

  • what size yarn – across the top of the table

and from this find out:

  • the crochet hook size that’s needed, and
  • how much yarn is in one square

2. Then choose:

  • the blanket size – from the 3 headings going down the table

and from this find out:

  • how many squares are needed

3. Then select the yarn and colours.

Download and print the table here, or view it below:

how to choose the yarn size and blanket size

do this first – make a test square

The weights and sizes up above are indicative only and will depend on your unique crocheting style combined with the actual yarn and crochet hook used. There is extra allowance in the yarn weight for each square, but I strongly recommend making a square with the chosen yarn and crochet hook to check the size and weight of each square first.

Thinking of using a Yarn Advent?

These are generally (but not always) 4ply / fingering weight yarn and there’s generally (but not always) 20g in each mini skein. This is the perfect combination to make a square.

49 mini skeins are needed to make a 1m x 1m (39in x 39in) blanket, or 100 mini skeins to make a 1.5m x 1.5m (59in x 59in) blanket, or 169 mini skeins to make a 2m x 2m (79in x 79in) blanket. Remember you don’t have to make the entire blanket in a year (maybe it’s multiple years of Yarn Advents) or you use a Yarn Advent plus yarn stash.
