crochet a heart to remember, and support

My heart has been heavy since I learnt of the Bondi terrorist attack. It’s holding sorrow and support for the victims, their loved ones and the jewish community, and hope for jews to be able to live in Australia without fear.

I’ve been learning about Hanukkah and jewish traditions and on Monday evening I lit a candle to support and remember. It felt right to crochet a heart to sit with the candle, to create with my hands a physical reminder of what my heart was holding.

Would you like to crochet a heart too?

Whether it’s a personal reminder, to give to someone that’s hurting or to leave around your community, hearts can be crocheted with any yarn.

I used the Chunky Hearts pattern with Homelea Happy 10ply yarn and a 5mm crochet hook. The written instructions to crochet the hearts are:

  1. make an adjustable loop
  2. 3 chain
  3. 3 double treble (UK) / 3 treble (US) into the loop
  4. 3 treble (UK) / 3 double crochet (US) into the loop
  5. 1 double treble (UK) / 3 treble (US) into the loop
  6. 3 treble (UK) / 3 double crochet (US) into the loop
  7. 3 double treble (UK) / 3 treble (US) into the loop
  8. 3 chain
  9. slip stitch into the loop
  10. tighten the centre loop
  11. cut the yarn and pull both ends through the last stitch
  12. knot the ends together and trim off the extra yarn

Hi! I’m Lynda (she/her) and I’m the lady behind Homelea Lass.

I’m here to help you improve your crochet skills and to help you find peace and happiness in your creative time.

In 2012 I was knocked down by debilitating chronic fatigue that put an end to my blossoming career as a Civil Engineer and Project Manager.

Early on in my illness, I discovered that I could crochet without draining my energy, so I spent my days crocheting, researching yarns and designing – this is how Homelea Lass was born.

My experience with chronic illness has guided me to combine my passion for exceptional design and crochet. I’ve developed a way of crocheting that’s enjoyable, easy to understand, and maximises it’s relaxing and wellbeing properties.

As my healing journey has progressed, Homelea Lass has grown, and I feel blessed that I can share my love of Australian merino wool, chunky crochet and creativity with you.
